Nicholas P. Sims Library Policies

Sims Library provides computers for the public to use as a community service. However, most of the computers are reserved for people who have a Sims Library card. You must have a Sims Library card for full access to the computers and the electronic databases. You must bring your card to the Library in order to use the computers.


Any violation of this or any Sims Library policy can result in loss of computer and/or Library access and privileges.

Exam Proctoring

Students must verify that the following conditions are acceptable to the institution giving the test before having an exam sent to the Nicholas P. Sims Library. If this policy does not meet the student’s needs, the student should contact the educational institution that is administering the test for other proctor recommendations.

 

The proctoring fee is $20 per test. All fees are payable just prior to the examination.

Homebound Delivery Service

The Nicholas P. Sims Library’s Homebound Delivery Service Program will bring library materials on a monthly basis to residents of Waxahachie, Texas who are unable to leave their home due to a permanent condition, or temporary condition lasting six weeks or more. Library staff will select books, in original or large print format, according to preferences of the home-bound library user.

Inclement Weather Policy

During inclement weather, Sims Library may open late or close early. Please call ahead for updated library hours!

Interlibrary Loan

Nicholas P. Sims Library patrons can request Interlibrary Loans (ILLs) either in person at the Circulation Desk, or online: http://texasgroup.worldcat.org

 

Patrons will need their Sims Library card number and ten-digit phone number.

  • Only books can be requested -- no audio or video materials

  • Fee is $3 per requested item*

  • Payment is expected when the request is filed

  • Checkout period varies by lending library

  • There is a limit of four open requests at one time per patron

 

Patrons who fail to return materials borrowed on their behalf will be charged the cost of the item (as determined by the lending library) plus a $6 processing fee. If a patron fails to pick up Interlibrary Loans items on three occasions, Interlibrary service will be revoked.

Kindle Checkout Policy

Our Policy associated with checking out a pre-loaded Amazon Kindle from Sims Library. You will be required to sign a copy of this form each time a Kindle is checkout from the library.

Mobile Hotspot Lending Policy (Wi-Fi Hotspot)

Sims Library takes many pictures of our programs and patrons. Please sign the following form if you are willing to allow us to use pictures of you or your children on our website, newspaper articles, and social media posts.

Safe Child Policy

The Nicholas P. Sims Library endeavors to provide a welcoming, pleasant, and safe environment for all Library users. The Library is not the guarantor of the safety of the children who use our facilities. The safety and security of the children are the responsibility of the parent or adult caregiver. The Library does not and cannot act as a baby-sitter or protector of children.

Teen I-Pad Policy

Sims Library now has iPads available for in-house use by tweens and teens. iPads are preloaded with interactive apps, eBooks and games.

Teen Lair Acceptable Use Policy

The Library’s Teen Lair is a dedicated space for teens ages 11-18 to gather, mingle, socialize, and use library resources in support of their education. Therefore, the Teen Lair and the computer terminals located there are reserved for use by teen customers only.

Sims Library provides computers for the public to use as a community service. With your Temporary Computer Card you have full access to the computers and the electronic databases. You must always bring your card to the library in order to use the computers.

You must be at least 18 years old and in good standing to qualify for a Temporary Computer Card.

Card Fees


Temporary Computer Cards are available for thirty (30) days for $5 or sixty (60) days for $10. If you lose your Temporary Computer Card you must purchase a new card at the full price. Library staff cannot retrieve the card number for you, nor can you use your valid Driver’s License.

We welcome volunteers at Sims Library. We can always use a helping hand.

 

You must be 14 years or older in order to volunteer at Sims Library.

Sims Library does not accept court appointed community service hours for volunteering.

Vulnerable Adult Policy

The Nicholas P. Sims Library strives to provide a warm, welcoming and safe environment for all community members. The Library is particularly concerned for the safety of vulnerable adults in and around the Library. A parent/guardian or caregiver 18 years of age or older must be responsible for the well-being of vulnerable adults.

Free Wi-Fi

Sims Library does offer free Wi-Fi to all patrons. Library cards are not required to use this free Internet access, but you must supply your own wireless device (laptop computer, etc.) and all necessary software. All Wireless users are held accountable to the Sims Library Wireless Policy. Please see a Sims Library staff member to receive the Wi-Fi password.
