Nicholas P. Sims Library Policies

Sims Library provides computers for the public to use as a community service. However, most of the computers are reserved for people who have a Sims Library card. You must have a Sims Library card for full access to the computers and the electronic databases. You must bring your card to the library in order to use the computers.

Any violation of this or any Sims Library policy can result in loss of a computer and/or Library access and privileges.

Students must verify that the following conditions are acceptable to the institution giving the test before having an exam sent to the Nicholas P. Sims Library. If this policy does not meet the student's needs, the student should contact the educational institution that is administering the test for other proctor recommendations.

The proctoring fee is $20 per test. All fees are payable just prior to the examination.

During inclement weather, Sims Library may open late or close early. Please call ahead for updated library hours!

Our policy associated with checking out a pre-loaded Amazon Kindle from Sims Library. This form must be signed each time a Kindle is checked out from the library.

Sims Library endeavors to provide a welcoming, pleasant, and safe environment for all library users. The library is not the guarantor of the safety of the children who use our facility. The safety and security of the children are the responsibility of the parent or adult caregiver. The library does not and cannot act as a babysitter or protector of children.

Sims Library provides computers for the public to use as a community service. With a Temporary Computer Card (TCC), patrons will have full access to the computers and electronic databases. Patrons must always bring their card to the library in order to use the computers.

Card Fees

$5 for 30 days

$10 for 60 days

If you lose your TCC, you must purchase a new card at the full price. Library staff cannot retrieve the card number for you, nor can you use your valid Drivers License.

Sims Library does offer free Wi-Fi to all patrons. Library cards are not required to use this free internet access, but you must supply your own wireless device (laptop, tablet, etc.) and all necessary software. Please  see a Sims Library staff member to receive the Wi-Fi password.

Sims Library does not censor material. The Freedom to View, along with the freedom to speak, to hear, and to read, is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. In a free society, there is no place for censorship of any medium of expression.

Library Bill of Rights

Please help your children learn behavior that is

appropriate in a public library setting:

  • Use inside voices

  • Use walking feet

  • Put away puzzles after play

  • Encourage respectful use of materials, furnishings, and equipment.

  • Children 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult

Please keep in mind our goal is to help everyone have an enjoyable and successful library experience.

Sims Library is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Sims Library's Home-Bound Delivery Service will bring library materials on a monthly basis to residents of Waxahachie, TX who are unable to leave their homes due to a permanent condition, or temporary condition lasting six weeks or more. Library staff will select books, in original or large print format, according to the preferences of the home-bound library user.

Sims Library patrons may request Interlibrary Loans (ILL) either in person or online: http://texasgroup.worldcat.org.

Patrons will need their library card number and phone number.

  • Only books can be requested - no audio or video

  • Fee is $3.50 per requested item*

  • Payment is expected when the request is filled

  • Checkout period varies by lending library

  • There is a limit of four open requests at one time per patron

*Patrons who fail to return materials borrowed will be charged the cost of the item (as determined by the lending library) plus a $6 processing fee. If a patron fails to pick up their ILL on three occasions, ILL service will be revoked.

Sims Library takes many pictures of our programs and patrons. Please sign the following form if you are willing to allow us to use pictures of you or your children on our website, newspaper articles, and social media posts.

The Library's Teen Lair is a dedicated space for teens 13-18 to gather, mingle, socialize, and use library resources in support of their education. Therefore, the Teen Lair and the computer terminals located there are reserved for use by teen customers only.

We welcome volunteers to Sims Library.

We can always use a helping hand.

Volunteers must be 14 years or older.

Sims Library does not accept court appointed community service hours for volunteering.
