Nicholas P. Sims Library & Lyceum

Capital Elevator

Project Announcement

Closed November 1 - December 2

Nicholas P. Sims Library and Lyceum are proud to announce that work will begin on the elevator leading to the Lyceum.  This project will be a great asset to the community, staff, and businesses.  The construction project will also include the addition of a room to be used for programs and community functions.

The Capital Funding Campaign is in full swing.  Please contact the Library for more information (972.937.2671), if you are interested in donating.

Construction will begin December 2, 2019 and last approximately 7-8 months.  The crew will bring their equipment, materials, and build temporary walls starting November 15th until the construction begins December 2nd.  The library staff will need to move and clear out closets, hallways, and relocate books, which means the library will be closed to the public the entire month of November.  The departments affected by this project are the Children’s, Reference, Teens and the meeting room.  The staff will relocate books from those departments to the Reading area.  Access into the library will be through the Main Street entrance.

The temporary library hours for patrons during the construction will be as follows:

Tuesday – Friday          9:30 - 5:00

         Saturday               9:30 - 4:00

Extended check-out times will be allowed for patron convenience.  Relocation of the book-drops to the parking lot will occur to allow for easy access.

Programs will be conducted offsite as much as possible.  Please visit the library webpage (www.simslib.org), Facebook, or call the library for additional scheduling times.

The construction model is on display at the library for community viewing.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during the expansion process.  Please remember that we do not like to change hours or close departments, but the purpose is to ensure safety for the staff and community!

Thank You,

Barbara Claspell, Library Director
