How do I get a library card?

Go to the Main Desk on the first floor of the library and ask for an application. You must present a current driver's license or other valid photo ID. We will also accept a utility bill in your name at that address, or a 6 month or greater residential lease agreement in your name at that address as proof of residency. There is no charge for a library card for residents within the city limits of Waxahachie.

Patrons who live outside the city limits are charged $25.00 per household for a library card. This fee applies whether it is one individual or a family of five.

Sims Library now offers Temporary Computer Cards for full Internet access to adults 18 and older. Temporary Computer Cards are available for 30 days for $5 or 60 days for $10. You must read the Temporary Computer Card policy and fill out an application in the Reference Department.

   Sims Library accepts cash or checks. We cannot accept credit or debit cards.

Where is the library located?

Sims Library is located at 515 W. Main Street in Waxahachie, Texas. From Highway 35, take exit 401B (Business 287), go East toward Waxahachie. This street becomes Main in the city limits of Waxahachie, and the library will be on the right side of the street.

If you are traveling from the North side of Waxahachie, you may also take Ferris Avenue/Highway 77 South toward downtown Waxahachie, and turn right onto Main Street. The library will be on your left.

Where can I find books inside the library ?

Sims Library offers a wide variety of materials from children's books to nonfiction for adults. A printable floor plan is available here to download, or feel free to ask a library staff member for assistance.

Do you offer any computer classes?

Yes, Sims Library offers computer classes that are free to people who have a Sims Library Card. You must have a library card to take the classes, which are held in the Reference Department when scheduled.

To see a schedule of computer classes, visit the Computer Classes page. Registration for the computer classes is limited and pre-registration is required

Can I check my email at the library without a library card?

Yes, in the Reference Department adults (18 and older) can use their valid driver's license to access the Guest Computer for email-only access. A guest pass is available once a day for up to thirty minutes.

How do I place a hold on an item?

There are three ways to place a hold on an item: By Phone, In Person, or Online. If you call or come into the Library, a staff member will help you reserve the item.

To place a hold online, go to the Catalogue and search for the item. On the left side of the screen is a Place Hold option to click once the record is open. You must then log into your Library account.

  • Each hold is 25¢.
  • Limit 4 items.

Can I renew my items ?

Yes, you can renew most materials one time. DVD/Videos cannot be renewed.

There are three ways to renew an item:

  • By Phone
  • In Person
  • Online (see My Account for instructions)

Why can't I check out/place a hold on a new book ?

New titles may appear in our catalogue before they are available for check out due to technical processing format.

Why can't I access the Library's website 24 hours a day?

The Sims Library website and catalogue, which includes personal account information, is unavailable between 2 A.M. and 5 A.M. Central Standard time for maintenance and upkeep.

Does the Library offer Wifi ?

Sims Library now offers free Wi-Fi, or Wireless Internet connection, to all patrons. Library cards are not required to use this free Internet access, but you must supply your own wireless device (laptop computer, etc.) and all necessary software. All Wireless users will be required to be aware of the Sims Library Wireless Policy.

Where can I return materials?

All library materials can be returned at the Main Circulation Desk on the first floor when the Library is open. Books and Magazines may be returned in the outdoor drop box when the library is closed.

How can I check out eBooks?

Sims Library offers eBooks and eAudiobooks through Overdrive.com. Using your Sims Library card and Pin number, you download audiobooks and eBooks for you computer, cell phone, iPod, or eBook reader. See the Getting Started page for full details.

Can I borrow books from another library (Interlibrary Loan)?

Yes, Nicholas P. Sims Library patrons are able to request Interlibrary Loans (ILL) for books or articles. The cost is $2.75 for each requested item.
