- June 10: KICK-OFF PROGRAM
- Fort Worth Zoo presents some of their animals in their "Wild Wonders" show. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
- June 11: "Texas Ain't Just Fer Cowboys"
- Debbie Day presents a variety show of comic proportions including song and dance and puppets and audience participation.
- June 17: "Mobile Dairy Farm"
- Tdodd Griffin will bring his cow and show the working wonders of milking.
- June 18: "Tako and his Marionettes"
- A circus show including magic, puppets, juggling, storytelling and a historical Mexican toy collection.
- June 23: SPECIAL PROGRAM, special time (4:30 - 5:30 pm) "Reading with Ringling Bros."
- The Ambassadors of Laughter will read a circus-themed book to the children and basically clown around, circus style.
- June 24: "Annual Pet Show"
- Show off your furry (or not so furry) friend on Sims front lawn. Open to all breeds and species, categories in this contest include Biggest, Cutest, Friendliest, Grumpiest, Most Talented, Scaliest/Slimiest, Smallest, Strangest, and more. Ribbons and trophies will be awarded.
- June 25: "Texas Treasures"
- Todd McKinney the magician will tell stories, perform fantastic tricks that include fun audience participation, and promises a final feat of making a child float three feet in the air!
- July 1: "Bicycle Safety Rodeo"
- Wess Winn, Community Services Officer with the Waxahachie Police Department, will bring fellow Police Explorers to present tips on riding safely. Children must bring their own bikes and helmets. Bicycles will be registered, inspected, and put through an obstacle course.
- July 2: "Old Fashioned 4th of July"
- Come join us on the front lawn for some good old fashioned fun! Games galore will include hula hoops, jump rope, sidewalk chalk, the sack race, the three-legged race, tug-of-war, a watermelon seed spitting contest and many more. Ice-cream will also be served at the end.
- July 8: "Summer Santa"
- Christmas isn't the only time Santa works! Saint Nicholas will pay a special visit to Nicholas P. Sims Library to read a story and share some summer surprises.
- July 9: "Sit and Stay Seminar"
- With the help of MarK-9 Search and Rescue Dogs, children will be taught what to do if they become lost. The team covers techniques designed to protect a lost child and help searchers locate the child more easily. Volunteers are chosen from the audience to demonstrate each rule.
- July 15: "Go Wild Around the World"
- Xtreme Kidz Entertainment presents a high energy show packed full of interactive discovery and fun as kids dress up with artifacts from seven continents. Enjoy cultural music, instruments, animals and other great treasures from Japan, Africa, America and much more. The grand finale is a loud rip-roaring Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. This is one definitely worth bringing your camera!
- July 16: "Backyard Animals"
- The Creature Teacher, a professional wildlife educator, will bring animals to thrill children of all ages. Fun, educational and interactive, Robyn Wheeler will have over 20 animals from the soft and cuddly to the creepy and crawly.
- July 22: "Song and Stories"
- Willy Welch is a songwriter, author and storytelling performer for kids and families. Sing songs you know or songs you learn and hear stories Mr. Willy makes up or hears from other storytellers, maybe even a children's book he's written himself!
- July 23: "Cook-a-Doodle-Doo"
- ECCHO, a homeschooling organization, presents the play based on the Bluebonnet award book by Janet Stevens. With the questionable help of his friends, Big Brown Rooster manages to bake a strawberry shortcake which would have pleased his great-grandmother, Little Red Hen.
- July 29: "Fashion Show"
- Come dressed as your favorite storybook character.
- Strut your stuff on the catwalk and parents are encouraged to be the paparazzi and bring their cameras! Prizes will be awarded .
- July 30: "Talent Show"
- Think you could be the next American Idol? Love to sing, dance, make music? Want all the world, or at least all of Waxahachie, to see your unique skills? If so, sign up in the Children's Department for our Talent Show. Prizes will be awarded.
- August 5: "Dineen Family Farms"

- August 6: "Cool School with Miss Maria"
- Ms. Maria will rock your kids with music and more as she teaches memorably fun lessons. Every child will whoopee ti yi yo as she entertains with music, puppets and more.
- August 8: CARNIVAL!!
- Redeem your summer reading tickets, get your certificates and have fun, fun, fun! Games galore, a bounce house, dunking booth, free popcorn and cotton candy and snow cones included. Awards store also open. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Kids Summer Reading Program -- ages 2-12
- June 2 - July 31
- Reading logs will be available beginning Friday, May 29th. Turn in your log by 5:30 on Saturday, July 31st.
- Print out the Reading Log for ages 2-9.
- This summer we are counting books and pages read, depending on age.
