- The Chautauqua Idea: Then and Now
- Sept. 2nd, 6:30-7:30 PM
- Fresh from their latest visit to Chautauqua, New York, Kirk Hunter and Maureen Moore present an overview of the national Chautauqua Movement and Waxahachie’s own Chautauqua history at Sims Library on Thursday, September 2 from 6:30-7:30 P.M. They will relate the news from other Chautauquas across the country and report on their tradition-laden graduation this summer from the nation’s oldest book club, the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. Sims Library Adult Summer Reading program winners will be announced.

- Sabrina McDonald leads a free beginning and intermediate crochet group on Saturday, September 25 from 10:00 A.M.- Noon. Crochet for charity or for yourself. Contact the library at 972-937-2671 or adultlibraryservices@simslib.org for further information and registration.

- Friends of Sims Library
- Sept. 27th, 10-11 AM
- The Friends of Sims Library meet on the last Monday of each month from 10:00-11:00 A.M. in the library meeting room. The non-profit group was created in 1982 to foster closer relations between Sims Library and the citizens of Ellis County. The organization provides funds for programs and materials not covered by the current budget. The next meeting is September 27. Newcomers are always welcome.

- Beginning Sewing Class
- Sept. 28th, 6-7:30 PM
- Peggy Bumpus leads a free beginning sewing group for adults at Sims Library on the last Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:30 P.M. Registration is required for the September 28 class due to limited space. Please register at the library, online at adultlibraryservices@simslib.org or by calling 972-937-2671.

- Sims Library Movie Night
- Sept. 30th, 5:30-7:30 PM
- Please join us for Movie Night at Sims Library on Thursday September 30, from 5:30 -7:30 P.M. This month’s film features Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johanssen, and Mickey Rourke in a new DVD release. After confessing his identity as Iron Man to the world, Tony Stark comes under fire from the U.S. Government who demands he hand over the Iron Man suit. The movie is rated PG-13. The free movie and popcorn is sponsored by the Friends of Sims Library.
